Keeping our families and community safe goes beyond big initiatives — it starts at home.
With colder months approaching and more of us using space heaters, holiday lights, and generators, it’s a good time to remember some simple electrical safety practices.

Common Hazards to Watch For
- Cords — don’t overload outlets or let cords fray, replace damaged cords immediately
- Outlets — ensure outlets near water are GFCI-protected, never force a plug into an outlet
- Appliances — only use UL-approved appliances, keep them dry, and never handle them with wet hands
- Electric space heaters — keep heaters clear of blankets, drapes, or furniture, and always unplug when not in use
- Generators — always operate outdoors in a dry, ventilated area and never plug directly into your home’s outlets
A few small precautions go a long way toward preventing fires, shocks, and serious injury. For more information, visit idahopower.com/safety.
