Over the next few issues we’ll provide some checklists to help you look for signs of water or mold at your home. Previously we provided checklists for your crawlspace and your attic. Finding and repairing any problems quickly will save you time and money in the long run! This issue we’ll focus on things you can check in your home’s interior.
- Ensure the dryer duct is properly sealed and vented outside
- Check if you have condensation spots on the ceiling in your bathroom which can indicate a lack of ventilation
- Discoloration or staining on sheetrock, vinyl, or separation around tub, shower, or vanity could mean water leaks
- Interior window condensation in winter can indicate excess moisture in the house or potentially even water in the crawlspace — on the other hand, it may just mean you have older single-pane windows!
- Check your linoleum or vinyl plank flooring for discoloration or swelling which may indicate water has gotten under it
- Wood flooring warping can be a sign of too much moisture in your crawlspace — Jill actually noticed the edges of her wood flooring curling slightly and had to add more vents in her foundation to reduce the condensation in her crawlspace
