This week we’re celebrating National Iris Day! While our long winter has delayed these late-spring blooms, they are soon to be bursting out all over Boise and we’ll be so happy to see them!
What’s the best way to celebrate National Iris Day? One way is to walk your neighborhood! Irises are popular in North End garden beds and alleys because of their hardiness and beauty. Take a stroll around the neighborhood and you'll be sure to see an array of irises popping up.
The Idaho Botanical Garden is also home to many variations of this stunning flower. Consider a visit to this Boise treasure to take a peek. And did you know the Garden has a feature on their website called ‘Garden Explorer?’ You can search for plants by their common or formal Latin names, plant family, or even which garden they’re in. Then you can use the map to zoom in on the specific garden beds and head straight for them!
A lesser-known gem in our community is Sutton's Iris Gardens. Whether you want an opportunity to take some fun photos or to purchase irises for your own garden, Sutton’s Iris Gardens has you covered. Located in Meridian, they will be open from May 15th to May 31st from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. this year. Call (208) 297-8995 to get information about bloom conditions before you go!
Happy National Iris Day!
