Adding an interesting walkway to the front of your home is a great way to add curb appeal, as well as increase your home's value.
In the next couple of editions, we'll show you some great walkway ideas to help inspire you and fuel your creativity for those spring projects.
Wooden
Wood walkways are an attractive and welcoming way to add great curb appeal and a useful walkway to your home. It's important to use weather-resistant wood when considering this idea. Cedar and cypress are great options. Attach the walkway to a frame that sits on a well-drained base to avoid rotting from the bottom up. Stone or pea gravel 3-4" thick works well. Don't forget to apply sealer and stain each year.
Patio Pavers
One of the easier do-it-yourself walkways is to use square concrete patio pavers. This is an easy way to add a great and affordable look to your home without required maintenance. Separate the patio pavers with lava rock, mulch, or other small stones. Get creative along the side and add solar lights, plants, etc.
Mix Materials
Don't be afraid to use multiple elements when creating a new walkway to your home.
Give your walkway some personality by mixing elements with different colors and texture. Just be sure the materials stay in place and the walkway is level. Good combinations include flagstone and pea gravel, and patio pavers and lava rock. Get creative!
