Halloween is tomorrow and if you've spent any time in Boise's North End lately, you've probably noticed that some of our neighbors take this holiday VERY seriously! Harrison Boulevard, in particular, has become quite the Halloween destination with elaborate decorations and thousands of trick-or-treaters.
In honor of Halloween, we thought we'd share a few strange fact
s about the holiday:

P.S. Did you know that Harrison Boulevard and Warm Springs Avenue were both named among Reese's 150 best trick-or-treating streets in America this year? That's quite an honor for Boise! Apparently, we know how to do Halloween!
In honor of Halloween, we thought we'd share a few strange fact
s about the holiday:- Jack-o'-lanterns weren't originally pumpkins! In Ireland, people carved frightening faces into turnips to scare away evil spirits. Imagine trying to hollow out a turnip!
- Candy corn was originally called Chicken Feed. It was marketed in the late 1800s in boxes featuring a rooster. Frankly, I like that name better!
- Halloween used to be a matchmaking holiday. In Wales, people tossed apple peels over their shoulders, hoping they'd land in the shape of their future spouse's first initial. I think that may be even more effective than online dating!
- Trick-or-treaters didn't always get candy. Years ago, children might receive cookies, fruit, nuts or coins. We suspect today's kids might be a bit disappointed with an apple!
