This week at the office we're celebrating Johnny Appleseed Day! And here in Boise, the City of Trees, we think that’s a pretty fitting holiday to celebrate!
John Chapman a.k.a. ‘Johnny Apples
eed’ is one of America's great legends. Born on September 26, 1774, Chapman was a nurseryman who traveled through parts of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, and Illinois planting apple nurseries and selling or trading seedlings to settlers.
Over time, the real John Chapman became the larger-than-life Johnny Appleseed of American folklore. And here’s a fun fact: many of the apples grown from his trees weren’t the sweet eating apples we know today. They were often used to make cider!
It’s the perfect week to enjoy some fresh apples, applesauce, or, even better, a delicious slice of apple pie!
While you're at it, maybe you could plant an apple tree! (Or any tree, for that matter.)
